A slight but pleasant departure for me. I loved making this. When we were in Munich for an exhibit I was in, we stayed at a lovely small palace turned into a very pleasant hotel called Hotel Opera. The inner courtyard was where one had a hearty breakfast served on fine china.

While waiting for our food I drew part of a design from the sugar bowl. I never thought I would use it as inspiration for one of my paintings. When I needed to make a piece for a bird show, I thought how nice it would be to insert 3 little birds and some flowers into the sketch and work on designing a painting.

I enjoy the symmetry of this piece and have used the design for working on some “Crazy Pants” I am developing.

I wanted to post a lovely little 6 by 6 fish painting already framed. $100 SOLD

Speaking of fish, we were reeling in the skip jacks today.

Looks like we will be having fish for dinner for the next 3 days.

And if you are thinking about purchasing art, this is a nice time to get ahead of the holiday rush.

Poppies Party

2bees©

The poppies are blooming gloriously all over Europe and I love to think of having a party among the fields of  them.  Although my work is in 2 exhibits in Europe right now, unfortunately I am not.

I learned yesterday that my best cousin, Mary Sue, passed away at her home in Nova Scotia, with her husband and children at her side. Mary Sue battled brain cancer 3 years, outliving the one year prognosis. In her first year of her illness she wrote a book on daily meditations, each one a reason to be grateful. I can’t imagine how her family is going to deal with this loss. She is a nutritionist,  and her husband is a cancer researcher. They developed a formula to save children who have a particular amino acid deficiency. Her brother and sister in law’s son  and daughter were diagnosed with this rare disorder- Propionic Acidemia. This formula has allowed children to survive much longer than their life expectancy of 6 months to 2 years.

Mary Sue and I spent nearly every weekend of our childhood at one another’s house. We would play day long monopoly games, keeping score, although we always seemed to be even at the end of a month. I will deeply miss her and her deep love for her family, life, good food and good stories.

This is a 6″ by 6″ Ink and Watercolor on Aquabord. All proceeds from the sale of this painting will go toward to the Propionic Acidemia Foundation which is striving for a cure for this rare autosomal recessive disorder.

Trip The Light Fantastic

Painting new ©

Wow oh wow, was this fun to do. I have been working on this painting for sometime now and am thrilled with how bright and vibrant it is. I hope you feel  joyful after looking at this. I love the psychedelic colors.

For those of you who don’t know my process, I was recording the time it took to make this painting.

So here it is:

6 hours for the initial drawing in pencil and then a rest for a few days to re look and revise.

1 hour for revisions.

4 hours  for inking the outline in with a crow quill pen and indelible ink.

And now time to take a guess to win a beautiful set of cards!!!!

This took me quite awhile. I have been working on this on and off for 3 weeks and if you take a guess at how many hours I painted this, leave a comment below.  I will mail a pack of lovely new cards to the person who is closest. I have a little more tweaking for a few creatures and this painting will be set to go.

I will be sending this painting off to Belgium for an exhibit at the Chateaux de Waroux for a  September exhibition if this doesn’t sell before then. Of course, I would happily send it off to a new owner. And yes, Chateaux de Waroux is one of the rare round castles! You can learn about it in the link above.

Chateau Waroux

This is a 9″ by 12″ ink and watercolor on Aquabord and is for sale for $550 varnished and framed in a cherry frame.

Bumblepuss Makes a Delivery

BUMBLE PUSS delivers a blob I am loving working with a mixed gouache for the background as I can control the evenness of the color much better than with straight watercolor. Bumble Puss has just delivered this little blob to Ms. Mercat and her friend is looking on appreciatively. Not so for the cloudy seahorse who is wondering when he will get his delivery. Spring has sprung and yellow, blue and purple are the colors of the June irises I have in my yard.

I wanted to mention a wonderful blog by a high school friend of mine. I was always jealous to see Andie carrying her art portfolio around the halls as my parents wanted me to take all college directed courses which somehow left no room for art. Her blog is an eco-conscious person’s dream.

Her suggestions on how to make a spray that attracts beneficial insects instead of using toxic chemicals,  and how to repurpose tomato cages, to decluttering projects is quite wonderful. Andie has been a writer and an editor for years but devotes a lot of time to environmental efforts. Her blog synthesizes both. Check out one of her post here http://www.thegreenqueenofmod.com/memorable-masterpieces/  on saving children’s art and  consider signing up while you are perusing her posts. She’s also on Twitter @greenqueenofmod.

As to Bumble Puss, this painting is 6″ by 6″ Ink and Mixed Media on Aquabord, varnished and framed. $150.00 plus shipping.

Bumble Puss Takes A Rest

BUMBLE PUSS TAKE A REST ©

It is always a gift to have good friends to lean on. These cool rainy days make the peach colored  bumble puss tired. Luckily his friend is the perfect size to lean on. If you are wondering if there is a bumblebee in the painting, he is all dressed up in red and blue waiting to get some nectar from the poppy blossoms.

I hope everyone has fared the torrential rains safely.  My husband always said of global warming that the pot boils more furiously and we sure are having tremendous fluctuations in our weather patterns.

If you are near Arlington, MA on thursday May 8th, I will be at a Meet The Artist Event (me) at The Artful Heart Gallery in Arlington Center from 6-9PM. Stop in for some wine and cheese and to see my new work. Save the date as I would love to see you all.

6″ x 6″ Ink and Watercolor on Aquabord. $100.

Phone case winner and new work

Thank you everyone for the fabulous comments on my phone cover designs. I really was wowed by everyone’s  responses. Allie D has won a new phone case. Congratulations Allie!

I have been working on this piece for an upcoming international exhibit that I am participating in again in Poland this summer. This painting hasn’t got a name yet but I am open to suggestions.

I am also working up some designs for pillows. There has been so much response to my poppies phone case design that I might just use that design for one of them.

BEE BOP! Day 22 of 30 in 30

bee bop smaller copy ©

I have had so much to do that it has been hard to keep up with Leslie Saeta’s 30 in 30 painting challenge. There was a big snow storm last night and it is really freezing out. I wish it were warmer and I could see them in the hamamelis! But spring will come.

I made this little 7″ x 5″ Ink and Watercolor on Aquabord with a happy bee. $75

You Were Made For Me! Day 13 of 30 in 30

You Were Made For Me

Do you remember the song “You Were Made for Me” by Freddie and The Dreamers.

I remember  the silly little movement 5′ 3″  tall Freddy Garrity would do as he sang.

He and the band kicked back their legs like they were skipping in place. Quite the signature movement added to their performance. If you don’t remember, you might get a kick out of watching this video.

These two know they were made for each other.

This is a 7″ x 5″ Ink and Watercolor on  Aqua Bord $150.

Funny Bunny

bunny pattern copy

I have been working on this image for a repeat pattern and finally feel it is finished. If only I were better in Photoshop. I haven’t figured out how to drop out the background so I can make a lovely repeating pattern.  I think it looks quite cute all on it’s own.
