Lobster Party

LOBSTER PARTY ©

I must say I struggled away with this lobster. Initially he was colored in very light blues with hints of red. Yes, I wanted him to look like he had just come out of the sea. When I looked at my work  from a distance I felt that the values were too close, so this guy got some make up. I have seen bluish-red lobsters but really, if you are wearing dancing shoes you can be any color you want to be.

This is a 7″ by 5″ Ink and Watercolor on Aquabord.  I have started on a sea series and hope that I can do justice to what I imagine under the sea parties must be like.  To purchase click the Paypal link below.

I am also one of the featured artists on the front page of Turning Art  this week. Click on over to take a look.

Bumble Puss Takes A Rest

BUMBLE PUSS TAKE A REST ©

It is always a gift to have good friends to lean on. These cool rainy days make the peach colored  bumble puss tired. Luckily his friend is the perfect size to lean on. If you are wondering if there is a bumblebee in the painting, he is all dressed up in red and blue waiting to get some nectar from the poppy blossoms.

I hope everyone has fared the torrential rains safely.  My husband always said of global warming that the pot boils more furiously and we sure are having tremendous fluctuations in our weather patterns.

If you are near Arlington, MA on thursday May 8th, I will be at a Meet The Artist Event (me) at The Artful Heart Gallery in Arlington Center from 6-9PM. Stop in for some wine and cheese and to see my new work. Save the date as I would love to see you all.

6″ x 6″ Ink and Watercolor on Aquabord. $100.

Anthea’s Easter Skating Party

Along with an Easter basket, our children often received Easter paintings. This one was for Anthea who was quite a good ice skater in her time. In her early days as a skater she did a solo piece along with Jenny Kirk ,who later became the World Junior Champion 2000 and a 4 continents champion. Anthea and Jenny  both had the same coach when they were 9.

Happy Easter.   Wesolych Swiat.    Joyeuses Pâques.     Boa Pascoa.

That’s all I know folks!

Pondering

PONDERING

I struggle to achieve mastery over color. It is one of my major challenges. I  tried to have a more mature palette by mixing complimentary colors. My goal was to create a jungle scape that was more harmonious. I am seeing new possibilities in coloration.

Now the challenge is to stay the course.

This is a 7″ by 5″ ink and watercolor on Aquabord framed in a shadowbox frame.

Captain’s Quarters

CAPTAIN'S QUARTERS, 14" x 10", $500 frameD

CAPTAIN’S QUARTERS, 14″ x 10″, $500 framed

So occasionally my creatures are a tad erotic. There are a few in this painting. You know that I do have fun hiding things within my paintings. The captain is quite oblivious to what is going on around him.  The cool cat sure would like to get to know the lady in the red dress a bit better. The red cat obviously already has gotten to know the winged woman he is talking to.  Amazing how much we miss if we aren’t paying attention.

I am thrilled to see so many birds at the feeders now. I noticed the egrets have returned although they had a few very cold wet weeks they had to deal with. As I drive to and from work I saw them huddled in Adamsville Pond.  Below is a photo of them in the summer. They use this spot as their rookery.

Who Designed Your Clothes?

WHO DEISGNED YOUR CLOTHES?, 12"x9" Ink and Watercolor, $400 framed.

WHO DESIGNED YOUR CLOTHES?, 12″x9″ Ink and Watercolor, $400 framed.

I don’t watch commercial television very often but last night I was watching a movie on Oxygen and felt assaulted by the number of commercials for spring clothing. I don’t know if there was a time that I ever remember enjoying these commercials but I was struck by the influence they must play if you are watched a lot of TV. Enough of that.

I prefer the lovely clothes these creatures are wearing.

FLOWERS ANYONE?

Flowers Anyone?

I have been working up a series of funny bunny paintings that I can also use for repeating patterns. I’m fond of the two cats floating in the poppies and the Egyptian styled leaves on the lower right.

Phone case winner and new work

Thank you everyone for the fabulous comments on my phone cover designs. I really was wowed by everyone’s  responses. Allie D has won a new phone case. Congratulations Allie!

I have been working on this piece for an upcoming international exhibit that I am participating in again in Poland this summer. This painting hasn’t got a name yet but I am open to suggestions.

I am also working up some designs for pillows. There has been so much response to my poppies phone case design that I might just use that design for one of them.
