Hitchcock Makes An Appearance, Day 13 of 30 Days of 30 Paintings

hitchcok makes an appearance 1-13-2013

I spent Sunday working with Karen Raus who has an amazing studio.  Karen takes amazing photographs and works in encaustics  to transform them into unique artworks. I had the pleasure of joining her in working in making 2 encaustics. I stuck with my watercolor medium as the base but added Alfred Hitchcock on the left  for one of his  quick appearances. Who can forget his signature theme song. Once it is in your head it is going to stay there for awhile.

I loved adding the collage pieces that I made from torn paper which I painted and then soaked in gold based wax. The dark spots are walnut ink. Did I mention Karen has great art supplies. A real treasure trove for an artist.

This is a 6″ by 6″ encaustic work on a 1″ deep cradle board. Looks great hanging on the wall.

BUNNY HOP, Day 12 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

BUNNY HOP

I  had a delightful day working in encaustics with a wonderful photographer and artist, Karen Raus, famous locally for her Beach Walker series. After applying watercolor and coating with wax, I made some paper shapes that I painted and worked into some gold colored wax and applied to the painting.

This is an 8″ by 10″ encaustic on 1″ deep cradle board. It was great to work in a different medium and also a delight that Karen’s husband, Bill,  had just completed running heat into her studio. Bill is from upstate New York and I really appreciate his sense of humor. Reminds me of home.
