A Poppy For Your Thoughts, 5″ by 7″ Ink and Watercolor on Board by Susan Medyn

A Poppy for your thoughts. copy

When it’s cold outside it is nice to think of summer days when the poppies bloom and cats lounge in the sun.

Cats in Coracle

IMG_3864

This is a  commission of cats in a sail boat that I did for Captain Susan Smith. I wasn’t sure what a coracle was but she responded to my  proposal drawing with “Cats in Coracle” so I took that to mean it was a go. I  looked up  coracle and found it to be  an ancient round craft used in Wales. In case you have any doubt, here is an image of a coracle. I know my boat is leisurely drifting.

And thinking of commissions, this is a great time of year to order a painting for a holiday gift. I still have time to get a few more in. Just email me at susanmedyn@cox.net

It’s that time again to make the quince paste and quince jam. I am going to try out a crock pot for the paste. Right now the house smells heavenly from 20 pounds of cooking quince.

Will They?

WILL THEY?

I have been working to get more glow in my paintings and am finally succeeding. I am adding a little gouache and acrylic to parts of the painting. Can you tell that all the animals are wondering if these two creatures will become a couple?

I know they have been spending a lot of time together.

I picked this work up at the framers today. I decided to use a cherry frame and am so pleased I did. I feel the good karma in this painting.

Sometimes I am asked how long it takes for me to make a painting like this. I kept track of the hours and yes, this took 43 hours to do.

This weekend brings lots of nice events. I am planning to pick quince at Rocky Brook Orchard. Greg, the owner, has emailed me that the last of the quince will be ripe this weekend.  I love to make quince jam and quince paste.

I am gallery sitting at The Art Stable Gallery Westport on Saturday (stop in for a glass of champagne, to see all the new artworks, and to see what painting I will be working on).

On Sunday I have will be going to the opening of  ” BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at Kathrine Lovell’s Gallery and Studio at Tiverton Four Corners. The opening is from 1PM to 5PM and has some really cool work. I have 3 pieces in this exhibit. Kitty’s (Kathrine Lovell) openings have earned a reputation for a rocking good time so if you are in the area you will not be disappointed.

Will They?  is a 12″ by 9″ mixed media (first time I have used that term for these works) framed in a cherry frame.

To purchase contact me at susanmedyn(at)cox.net. I am always happy to work out a payment plan. Or click the link below.

Nashawena Island from Cuttyhunk Island

Nasawena island from Cuttyhunk Island copy

I spent a lovely overnight with another artist friend, visiting friends on Cuttyhunk Island. It was beautiful painting weather although a bit windy.

I started some larger works but this was a fun little 5 1/2 ” by 3″ watercolor of Nashawena Island from the school yard. I took the photo hours after I had made the painting. While I was painting, the sun was lighting up Nashewena Island as the clouds were blowing through.

Sharing a view at the end of the road. Warm enough to dive in until recently.

Sometimes the best way to show a most wonderful experience is without too many words. I was blessed to go to Cuttyhunk Island for a 5 day retreat with 11 other incredibly wonderful women.

Well I was told I would fall in love with Cuttyhunk and I did. The co-organizers of the Artist’s retreat, Teri and Ellie pampered us in ways that left us free to spend our days following our own artistic path. The joy, the laughter, the beauty. Thank you to each of the woman who brought their gift of themselves to the island to share with one another.

Cat Scratching

cat scratching ©

Can you tell that there are 2 cats scratching creatures. A twist on the usual cat getting scratched by their owner. Our cats love petting. In fact Arthur is now wearing a pheromone collar to remind him of his mom. Amazing all the things a vet might recommend. It is supposed to help Arthur feel more secure. Time will tell.

I am gallery sitting at the Art Stable Gallery Westport today. Stop in and see new work by several of the ASG artists. I have added several new paintings and will be working on a new one while I am there.

This painting is 7″ by 5″ Ink and Watercolor on Aqua Board. It is varnished and framed in a shadow box frame.
