I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND AMONG OTHER THINGS….

I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND

My friend Karen Raus of http://www.rausphotography.com/  has been using cradle board to do encaustics utilizing her photography and paintings. I was interested in working on a surface other than paper so ordered some cradle boards from good ole Jerry’s Artarama and this is my first finished one. I love some of the mottling I can get using this material and am now working on several more.

This is a small 5″ by 7″ painting that is sold.

I am looking forward to working with this new board and have some 2 inch deep ones that I am thinking of doing a fish series on.

This weekend we were at a  Memorial Service for a wonderful man and musician, Richard Lainhart. He has made some of the most incredible music and you can hear some of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7NMc_FQdts and at other links on YouTube and on the web. Richard was such a kind and gentle man. His wife, Caroline Meyers, was filled with such calm and composure at the Memorial  that one was able to feel the serenity and love regarding the life of this man who left our world much too soon.

Another reminder to spend each day living and loving.

Newport Art Museum 100th anniversary Member’s Exhibition

I have a piece in the 100th Anniversary Members Exhibition at the Newport Art Museum

This photo is from the Newport Art Museum’s Facebook page……I have a piece in this exhibit.

I had to laugh when I saw where they placed my painting. I have been called a visionary artist but I jokingly call myself an outsider artist, not because I am an outsider artist but because my work so often does not find a place in the shows. I wasn’t with the animals, I wasn’t with the fish, I was outside the galleries in the foyer.

I have been working on several new paintings but haven’t had time to properly photograph them. I will post them soon.

Although I do need a new camera desperately and hope to get one in the next few months.

I love working in my studio. Yesterday each time I looked up I saw the wind wildly making waves on the Sakonnet but the sun was shining so nicely.

Happy New Year!

Kitty Arthur...maybe...not sure on the nameHappy New Year

Happy New Year

I want to wish everyone a wonderful 2012 filled with small gifts and love. I have had quite a journey in 2011 and am looking forward to working  a tad less, painting more and enjoying my family. We have had so many changes as a family this year…our daughter getting married, our son going to college, moving to a new house, losing loved ones, David finding a new job, me gaining better health, and my office mate getting ready to move to Alaska. I will miss her terribly, but know she needs to move forward and she is excited about relocating to the west coast. My sister is also taking me on a trip to Hawaii in less than 2 weeks and I am so excited for that.

Thanks to all of you who have kept up with my blog. I really appreciate your support and comments.

Hydra Symdra

HYDRA SYMDRA,Original sold at open studios. But I do have 5" by 7" Cards and 11" to 14" matted Gicleés for sale with same image. I have added a gicleé and card shop section to my blog as I find I get very attached to certain paintings and then they are sold. I never posted this very cool Ink and Watercolor painting in my fish series and realized it deserves to be seen. Check out my new section and I'd love to get some feedback on it.

So he has no name as yet but he is a he and for sale...

I am really happy with the outcome of this wooly emu as my friend Peri said or some sort of cross between an elephant and a medynological creature. I have been having a great time making this sole paintings and feel that this direction is a good one for me. I am still working on several multi-character paintings but have been concentrating on these. My Hyrda Symdra and If You Love Him Slug Him individual creature paintings are sold and that is great!  they have good homes to be happy in.

Feeling the September cool and missing summer warmth. Swam and fished yesterday and then went down to Warren’s Point for the sunset. It is a lovely beach with huge granite bedrock offshore, one with carved in steps to climb up and around and jump into the ocean. Ah, Rhode Island, a very calm place for me.

Love is wonderful.

Elin and Anthony Kiwi celebrate their anniversary!

I was commissioned to make a kiwi bird painting for a lovely woman celebrating her first anniversary with her husband who is from  Australia. She asked for a kiwi bird. Thus this new painting. I am so happy with the outcome. It is wonderful to create something celebrating love. A gift in itself to me. As it happened when I dropped off the painting to her mom as Elin was at work, her mother recognized me as the person who had come  with David into this wonderful church in Tiverton, RI  on Highland Rd. It unfortunately was sold due to declining congregation and her parents were there cleaning things out. She and her husband were nice enough to let us take pictures of the church which had some wonderful features, curved pews,  and of course, lovely stained glass. The new owner has never done anything with it, possibly because of the market downturn. I think as an artist one of the greatest gifts is to make something out of love and Elin was so delightful in her emails that I knew that I was making a very special painting for a very special couple.
I am thinking of using this little guy as my inspiration for the next painting. Had 2 lovely long swims in Tiverton, RI Saturday. We are renting it out the next two weeks to a lovely family from Pittsburgh. Their son is marrying a woman form Portsmouth, RI. He also did Teach For America, like Anthea’s husband Shamus did and will be working for the New Orleans School System helping to improve their educational system. It is so nice to rent to people who are celebrating the marriage of their son, and they are very lovely as well. They have a younger son who is  a pilot studying aviation to be come employed as a pilot. Very cool. And her son to wed worked right in Anthea and Shamus’s neighborhood. The world is small. Alex and their sons were chatting away as we were ready to leave so they could get settled after their 12 hours on the road. Cograts to the soon to be newlyweds.

Open Studios and the fish were a big hit!

Wonderful swim at the end of the day. Some nice bouncy waves.

A little seaweed. Think it is healthful to swim among the leaves.
