Monday is wash day but these females are showering so Friday is wash day too.
Drew another painting with poppies today that I hope to complete tomorrow.
I am feeling the pressure of needing to create lots of work for upcoming shows.

Thought I would paint an abstract meadow. I have loved the snow melt these past 2 days. Every morning there has been a wonderful fog covering the landscape.
This is a 5″ by 7″ painting on aqua board that is varnished and ready to hang. I have made it to day 9 of Leslie Saeta’s challenge and I am determined to complete a painting each day of the full 30 days.
It is wonderful meeting other artists and seeing their work. I am so pleased with the connections I am making. I even plan to trade a painting with one of the wonderful painters in this challenge.
This painting is for sale for 50.00 plus shipping.
I was so busy today that I had less time to paint than I wished. I am working on some complex pieces but did not get anywhere near done. So instead, for day 8 of this 30 day challenge, I worked on an abstract city scape.
This painting is 5″ by 7″ watercolor on aqua board. It is for sale for $50.00
I am working a lot of hours today so did a play with colors to make a cityscape. I love looking out from the upper story of my mother-in-law’s Manhattan apartment and seeing the view. This painting is 5″ by 7″ and is on aqua board. It is varnished so needs no glass for hanging. To see some of the work of the over 200 painters who have taken on Leslie Saeta’s challenge just click on her name and you can take a look at all the wonderful paintings.
Doing a color study today as I have to spend the next 2 days in Boston and will not have time in my studio.Thought of something coppery to warm me up. Have 3 bigger paintings in the works. I hope to be able to paint one for Wednesday’s post.
I really enjoyed painting today. The sun was so bright that the nearby water was so reflective that it was hard not to gaze at the sea. The poppy is the symbol for Morpheus the Greek god of dreams.
This is a 5″ by 7″ Ink and Watercolor on aqua board for day 5 of Leslie Saeta’s 30 day painting challenge.
This painting is going to the home of a wonderful artist Susan Klabak as a trade for one of her wonderful paintings.
It takes so long to work on my usual paintings so I have been playing a bit with color.
I am forging along in the 30 days 30 paintings inspired by Leslie Saeta. If you click on her name it will take you to her blog where you can see the work of about 250 painters posting daily.

This leopard was just woken from his nap and is looking at you. The bushes are hiding snakes and the lizard is climbing the tree.
This is my 3rd in a month long project of 30 paintings in 30 days started by Leslie Saeta. I continue to make paintings influenced by the style of Henri Rousseau. I have 3 large ones and a small one inked in that I am hoping to paint during over the month of January plus several ideas percolating in my head.
This painting is 5 by 7 and is Ink and Watercolor on Aqua Board that I varnish and place in a shadow box. SOLD
My work is so detailed that this is quite a challenge to make 30 paintings in 30 days, especially since I need to complete new work for several shows and open studios coming up this Spring and Summer.
So today I played with paint. Even though my work is playful, it is so unlike me to go at something free form. This is a 5 by 7 watercolor on aqua board that is varnished. Love those luminescent paints!
My tools usually are my #3 pencil, Crow Quill pen, India Ink, and an eraser, even before I get to any painting. So hopefully tomorrow I will have finished another creature feature. They take the better part of a day to complete.
I certainly thank Kelley McDonald and Leslie Saeta for inspiring me to challenge myself. Sometimes it is the offhand comment that sparks a dream in one’s mind which propels us forward.
The snow has come and the air is cold but not for this elephant and giraffe. They are warm and cozy and have moved to a new home in New York City. Working on aqua board is a challenge as the surface is hard on my nibs. The color sinks into the medium and often requires more than one coat of paint, unlike how one normally paints with watercolors.
I have had a few days off and have made 4 more paintings in the style of Henri Rousseau although I have not yet painted them. My high school friend, Andie Ptak, a graphic designer, suggested I make an adult coloring book of my drawings. I am taking her advice and am scanning each of my drawings into my computer prior to painting them. I am not sure if I will follow through on this project, but I will have the scans should I ever decide to do so.
I wish you all a joyous and peaceful New Year. Thank you all for following my blog and supporting my journey as an artist.
And as the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau said: “The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.”
